Head For The Mountains 10

October 9, 2020 - October 12, 2020

Led by George Lucas

Head for the Mountains 10

“The mountains are calling and I must go”

As I sit here with a sore knee from recent surgery, I still have the desire to make plans for our final trip to Alpine (where else?) for the 10th Head for the Mountains.  We will be departing from Haby’s Bakery in Castroville, Texas on Friday, October 9th and come home Monday, October 12th. (Columbus Day, if it’s still celebrated by then.)

If you are yearning for a trip that is close enough to avoid feeling too tired to drive when you get there, this trip’s for you.   If you’ve made this trip numerous times, I’m still hoping this last time (for my event) will call you to go.

Meet at Haby’s in Castroville at 8:30 a.m., Depart at 9:00 a.m.

Most importantly, we have a limited block of rooms reserved in Alpine at the Hampton Inn for a bargain price of $119 per night. (Normal price was $184, but the regional manager gave our Alpine manager a special price due to our loyalty over the years)   Call them ASAP if you want to stay at the Hampton Inn.  Call direct, Monday-Friday to (432-837-7344) and talk to Jennifer or Jaime to assure you get in.  As I said, there are a limited amount of rooms!

Other hotels near the Hampton Inn are:

Quarter Circle 7 Hotel (100 yards past Hampton Inn)  (432) 837-1100

Holiday Inn Express & Suites  (432) 837-9597

Quality Inn  (432) 837-1530

Friday travel plans are the same as all the times we’ve been out to Alpine, with stops in Uvalde (pit stop), Del Rio (lunch on your own and gas up and meet at the Wal-Mart), Pecos River Overlook, Pit stop at The famous Law West of the Pecos and Travel Stop (Where you’ll want to get brochures about all of West Texas, including Big Bend), Marathon Hotel and on to Alpine for check in.

Plans for dinner on Friday night is usually on your own.  I will be supplying eateries that plan to be open in subsequent emails.   Plans for scenic drives on Saturday and Sunday are also being planned as well as a group dinner on Saturday Night.

I know you all are going in all directions during this time of year.  Drives should be cool and crisp for HFTM 10 as we’ve moved the dates almost two months forward on the calendar.

Some momentous accessory (t-shirt, pin, etc.) will be sold for this event.  Ideas are invited, please!  (I mean, how many t-shirts do we need, lol)

If you have ANY questions, please feel free to call me at 210-846-1944.

Y’all come, ya hear?
